Medical pot shops worried about zoning rules

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) — Medical marijuana businesses in Colorado Springs plan to oppose a proposal that would push them away from religious buildings.
Medical marijuana advocates say they worry that officials will propose zoning regulations to restrict them from operating within 1,000 feet from churches, mosques, and synagogues and that the rules will put them out of business. The planning commission will be discussing zoning regulations Thursday to recommend to the Colorado Springs City Council.
Planning commission member Janet Suthers, the wife of Colorado Attorney General John Suthers, has urged religious groups to voice their opinions during the meeting.
